The ‘Shiba’ breed is a traditional Japanese dog breed still popular even today. It’s personality in general, shows extreme loyalty to its Master yet does not readily warm to strangers very well. As a highly vigilant dog it is suited to roles such as a guard dog.
In Japan, the breed has approximately 3,000 years of recorded co-habitation with humans.
At one period, due an epidemic the Shiba was facing extinction, but due to the efforts of a preservation society, it can now be found in many habitats.
Even to the modern day it co-exists with Japanese people as a popular pet companion, as its personality seems to suit that of the Japanese perfectly.
